Showing: April 16 – May 4, 2015
Public Awards Reception: Sunday, May 3, 2015, 1-3 PM

The Groff Exhibition: A Juried Exhibition of the Finest High School Art in San Diego County is a gallery exhibition of the best art being made by students in high school visual art programs throughout San Diego County.

2015 marks the 2nd Annual Groff Exhibition, produced by the San Diego County Art Education Association (SDCAEA) in partnership with San Diego State University and the San Diego County Office of Education. The exhibition, named after the late artist and educator Bruce Groff, is designed as the preeminent local presentation of high school art. For high school student artists, the Groff Exhibition strives to emulate the authentic processes and perspectives that shape the structure of the professional art world in San Diego County. In an effort to model the professional art world, this exhibition is juried by a three-person panel, each member of the panel representing an influential perspective in the qualitative judgment of visual art in our community. This year’s jury panel includes Brian Benfer, Visual Artist and Instructor at Grossmont and Mesa College; Christine Knoke, Director of Exhibitions and Chief Curator at the Mingei International Museum; and Philip Matzigkeit, Visual Artist and Lecturer at San Diego State University.

In addition to showcasing the talent and creative achievement of these young artists, the exhibition also serves as a professional development project for visual arts educators in accordance with SDCAEA’s mission to enhance and improve visual arts education throughout San Diego County. The exhibition offers cash awards for students at a special closing reception open to the public on Sunday, May 3rd.

SDCAEA also offers educators an invitation to a special Educators’ and Jurors’ Reception on Wednesday, April 22nd, at which teachers can interact with the jurors and each other in the discussion of best practices, curriculum and collaboration, all aimed at continually improving visual arts education in our community. Educators who would like to attend this special reception should RSVP at http://www.sdcaea.com.
